GM LS 58X only • Base and Pro kits
Quick fitting instructions
- Disconnect the battery. Remove the factory crank sensor and clean the sensor bore and sealing face. Please ensure the engine block mounting surface is clean and free from casting imperfections, so the sensor block sits flush and seals correctly.
- Check the supplied Viton O-ring is fitted. Lightly coat it with the O-ring lube included in the hardware bag. The sensor assembly is a very tight fit in the block. Seat it straight using firm, even hand pressure. Do not hammer it or use the mounting bolt to pull it into place. If it will not seat fully, stop and check the bore, O-ring and mounting surface.
- The air gap is preset to 1.0 mm and can be adjusted to suit your requirements if needed. Seat the bracket fully by hand; do not use the bolt to pull it into position. Use the mounting torque specified for the actual bolt size, grade and block.
- Connect the matching crank-sensor plug. Secure the lead away from exhaust heat, the starter and rotating parts, with no strain on the connector.
- Verify installed clearance. Slowly turn the engine by hand before cranking; stop if binding or sensor-to-wheel contact occurs.
- Confirm the correct ECU 58X trigger settings and stable RPM/synchronisation during cranking before running. The open-collector output requires a suitable ECU or external pull-up.
Torque and air-gap notes
Sensor threads / locknut: ZF specifies a maximum installation torque of 5.65 N·m (50 lb-in) on the sensor threads. This is a maximum, not a target tightening torque. If no adjustment is needed, leave the factory-set locknut undisturbed. After adjustment, hold the sensor in position while securing the locknut so the gap does not change.
Bracket mounting bolt: torque depends on the actual supplied bolt size, strength grade, thread engagement and engine block. If a mounting torque is not provided with your kit, confirm it with LongBoost before final tightening. Do not apply the sensor-thread limit to the bracket bolt.
Factory GM reference: the original crank-sensor mounting bolt on the referenced 6.0/6.2 L LS application is specified at 25 N·m (18 lb-ft). This factory-joint value must not automatically be used for a stainless replacement bolt or modified bracket.
Air-gap adjustment: the gap can be adjusted to suit your requirements if needed. The M12 x 1.0 sensor thread moves 1.0 mm per full turn. Adjust only with the engine stationary. After any adjustment, verify installed clearance and reliable RPM/synchronisation before running. Do not force the sensor against the reluctor wheel. ZF's nominal 1.5 mm sensing distance is target-dependent; this kit is supplied preset to 1.0 mm.
Sensor and kit specifications

|---|---|
| Sensor type / output | Hall-effect gear tooth / open-collector, sinking |
| Supply voltage | 5-24 VDC |
| Maximum tooth frequency | 15 kHz |
| Sensor operating temperature | -40 to +125 degrees C |
| Preset kit air gap | 1.0 mm - verify installed clearance |
| Sensor thread | M12 x 1.0 mm |
| Sensor body | Base: red aluminium / Pro: stainless steel |
| Lead / exit | 500 mm / 90-degree exit |
| Seal / bracket | Viton O-ring / billet aluminium |
Heat sleeving is not a sensor temperature rating. Keep the sensor body within its -40 to +125 degrees C operating range.
Stop and investigate any trigger errors, loss of synchronisation, oil leakage or physical contact before continuing.
